Uploading - Best practice

Last Updated: Aug 03, 2011 07:17PM EST
Uploading an image
  1. Consider your dimensions
Whilst you're encouraged to upload images of any height, you should be careful not to upload particularly wide images. Wide images will mean that anyone viewing your Prevue (yourself included) will see horizontal scrollbars in their browser - never a good look! Generally speaking, if your image is wider than 1024px, you should consider downsizing it.

  2. Separate foreground from background
With the above in mind, you can usually get around uploading super-wide images by adding your main image first, then also adding a separate background image or colour to your upload. Most of the too-wide images we see have 300px of solid colour either side of them! Learn more about advanced background options here.

  3. Lose the browser
Uploading an image of a website with the browser window included in that image is unnecessary. Prevue is an online app, so your images will always be presented within a browser... doing the aforementioned just creates an Inception-like effect of browsers within browsers!

  4. Keep it less than 1Mb
Just think of your clients... no-one wants to wait for a giant 1Mb image to download... and more than anything, it'll ruin the suspense when your showing off your handiwork!
